Sad cause you're trapped in love with a man who says everything's your fault.
So cold with his glare, face turned up, a fight within himself,
Too bold, way to much pride to ever consider help.
So you hang on like holding on won't exist past him,
Stealing your strength each day like the light when it dims.
Yet..you keep on loving, nope, she refuses to ever give up..
Even when he yells with raised fists she still yearns for his touch.
Forget the tears, the scars, and the many nights it rained,
confused all the time mistaking love with the pain.
He doesn't change but she changes without even knowing,
Still looks at the mirror and swears her face is glowing.
Body weak, crazy thoughts, all she's thinking is he played me..
never once thinking of all she'd become, too busy calling him baby.
Scratching records, breaking cycles, for what when it's all the same..
Distraught in his idea of love, still hope to get his last name.
Blinded by his used up lust, you'll do anything for his attention,
Even stick by his side, see him through that ten year prison sentence.
You only know loss so you never win, never release his hand..
She never loves herself enough to ever leave this man.

He doesn't change but she changes without even knowing,

Powerful prose. The above passage stuck out the most with myself. I've probably experienced the experience you speak of. But it became a matter of not knowing that I'd made a woman feel as such, until after she packed her bags and left.
Still, I feel you though.
A good woman stays until she simply cannot stay any longer it seems.
I believe this to be the gift and the curse of a woman being a good woman.
ReplyDeleteThank you Don, yes it is a gift and a curse I agree~! I appreciate the support.
ReplyDeleteI am posting this comment from a reader, I thought it was so sweet and thoughtful:
ReplyDeleteIt took me a while to read so I can give you my best review. This is a good poem, it has substance and it is relevant. It also has a nice flow to it and it is easy read. I’m not big on poems; I only take to a few of them like the Very famous ones by Maya Angelou, Langston Hughes, Paul Lawrence Dunbar and a few others. Yours will be among them in my memory; the title is memorable “Trapped” I like it, thanks for sharing.
Im on it today
